Even in the smallest communities, someone owns (or manages) the local grocery store or serves as the bank brach manager. I have had such groups numerous times in my career. By the way, in these meetings, I’m trying to learn leadership and management practices – not theology. They meet a payroll.

Self-evaluation is good here Are you more of a leader or a manager? This may be one of the most important questions we have to answer as our careers take us to new roles. We need to figure out which one we do best and then try to arrange our career where we can realize our best potential. Every organization needs both.

Respect is earned by honoring commitments and doing the right thing regardless of opinion, sentiment, or influence. In fact, in most cases I actually prefer to have my thinking challenged – this doesn’t threaten me as a leader, it improves my leadership ability. It is however essential that you have the respect of those you lead.
