The way to avoid conflict is to help those around you achieve their objectives. This is a skill I believe many leaders do not develop until later in their careers. I mentioned an example of this in a comment on a recent Ron Edmondson post dealing with Leading People Older Than You. I know I am still working on it.

If you still don’t know whether or not your attitude is affecting your performance, I would strongly suggest participation in a 360 review process where your strengths and weakness are objectively assessed by those whom you interface with on a frequent basis. People who have bad attitudes have more career turnover.

In fact, when striving to come-up with this list I quickly came to the conclusion that while I attempted to use objective logic in making my assessments, the reality is that a list like this is mostly subjective based upon personal preference.
