In most sports I’m aware of you cannot play if you don’t suit-up and show-up. Leadership is a participation sport and never works well in absentia. Loyalty is a missing ingredient in job market of both the secular and sacred. Show-up : You can’t make a difference if you don’t show-up.

Leadership is a full-contact sport, and if you cannot address conflict in a healthy, productive fashion then you should not be in a leadership role. elliotross So well said Mike, I know for myself that managing conflict is not a 'natural' for me. If so, you likely have issues with conflict.

In thinking of your example of sports teams, for example, is it possible that leaders can emerge at different times, for different purposes or tasks?
