A few years ago, I developed some questions to consider before I post on social media. It seemed strange the first time I heard a news story refer to a Twitter feed as a “source” of information. I would think we would want to guard our influence and reputations online as much as we would in person.

I’m referring to them as potholes. These potholes can become deep, and when they do, and you hit them, you can literally lose your leadership influence. Leaders who last for the long haul are always seeking new opportunities for growth and development. Teams are developed by mutual respect and appreciation.

John Maxwell says leadership is influence. If that’s true, then how does a leader gain influence with the people he or she leads? Influence is never gained simply by holding a position. I also knew I had to gain influence with my team. You can’t lead people if you can’t influence them.

I’ve done that also, but developing influence in either setting requires an intentional effort on the part of the leader. Influence is never gained simply by holding a position.

Our children will either be “givers” or “takers” in society and that will be greatly influenced by the life they live in our home. It has been amazing to watch our boys, now young adults on their own, having developed generous hearts towards others. And, by needs here I’m even referring to housing, clothing, food, etc.
