Summary.
When President Trump signed an executive order to dismantle President Obama’s climate legacy and policies, he claimed his actions will help the economy in general, and coal workers in particular. The White House is wrong about this. This administration has bought into the false narrative that economy and environment are at odds, and by doing so has put the United States (and the world) at risk. Why? For one, the author argues, tackling climate change will actually create more jobs and economic growth. Two, coal is simply not coming back. And three, unchecked climate change will be disruptive and expensive. There is hope in that business leaders have expressed that they will not stop reducing carbon. But they need to be more outspoken.
