Let me be clear: leadership and diversity should have nothing to do with one another. I’ll take it one step further – I can’t really think of any issue that should be argued or decided solely on the merits of diversity. In fact, let me take it up even another notch…diversity should be a non-issue altogether.

During the financial crisis of 2008, it was widely cited that a greater presence of female managers in the financial industry would have resulted in more ethical behaviors. “Our study shows that diversity in the executive ranks is important if the atmosphere in a company is to be appreciative and wage inequality is to be limited.”

Although I don’t have any hard research to prove it, I believe the vast majority of organizational cultures that are diverse in terms of the gender of their members, will outperform cultures that are not diverse. Women also tend to be more empathetic which increases connection too. why is everyone smiling?

Common good may not cover everyone, but it covers a diverse group. A connection to community, society, and a common good requires a greater conversation with a diverse group of team members and citizens. Common Good: Dignity and Ethics. Change leadership and common good need a tighter intersection.

The more we incorporate different approaches to learning that speak to diverse individuals who are wired to learn differently, the greater the probability they will in fact learn. It reminds me of Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences and Robert Sternberg’s identification of different thinking styles. why is everyone smiling?
