Usually sponsors have more senior positions than mentors, and it is their responsibility to advocate for an individual and pull them up the ranks to a top level position in the company. o Make sure your position has P&L responsibility.

Ironically, the article bring out how it doesn't even serve their purposes well, and I think corporations should be wary about hiring such self-serving bullies and placing them in positions of trust.

In fact, it is my opinion that the worst form of gossip is conducted under the guise of seeking advice or counsel. They would take the position that gossip is just part of human nature, and that gossip will always exist in any type of environment where social dynamics are present.
