My favorite was in 6 th grade, when Simon Mattar’s uncle showed us his tricked-out 1950’s era ambulance that had been converted into an all-purpose rescue vehicle. That’s the day Simon Mattar became a legend at Avondale Elementary. I gained a whole new appreciation for who Simon was and what his family was about after that experience.

We often hear the term blind spot with respect to an obstruction in the field of vision, or an area in which one fails to exercise judgment in an ethical dilemma. But I could see neither an obstruction of the field or an ethical dilemma when I recently witnessed a colleague experiencing a “blind spot moment.”.
