So getting back to culture, our favorite definition of culture, if you listen to the show for a while, you know, this comes from marketing guru Seth Godin, and he says that culture is simply people like us do things like this. You’ll never get those innovations if you don’t have the discussions.

When we each bring the best of who we are to the practice of leadership, we find that each person’s character varies the definition. Therefore, no two people will live the definition of a character-based leader the same. Seth Godin calls this emotional labor in his book Linchpin , quoting Arlie Hochschild.

It is consistent with our research where we heard respondents consistently use the terms “connect&# or “feel connected&# to describe the emotions they experience in relation to their organization’s identity, the people they work with and their day-to-day work. .&#

Outstanding teams are by their definition teams who STAND OUT. In Seth Godin's book Linchpin, he writes that “You can either fit in, or stand out. They are willing to put up with the criticisms of people who question their innovative methods or rabid attention to every detail. Not both.”.
