I read a short book - Reviving Work Ethic - A Leaders Guide to Ending Entitlement and Restoring Pride in the Emerging Workforce by Eric Chester. One of my strengths and one of the things that I attribute my business success to is my high work ethic. EMJ and SYNNEX were high work ethic companies. I love the topic.

And ironic part of me could not connect ethics and horse racing (perhaps because my puritan parents would be mortified by any form of gambling and it did not seem in line with high integrity).

Tied to this - a study revealed ethical bosses produce ethical staff. We do not spend 40 hours doing a 5 hour job. But mostly, it resonates at the macro level. We do the right thing for the world. Appliances and SEO just allow us to do that. I am not seeing a lot of my staff becoming vegetarian or even putting up solar panels.

My son, David, spoke of the "what would Don do" question that could be used to determine action in any ethical dilemma. He valued work ethic and this was one of his ways of showing that. To live a life thinking of the legacy left is powerful and inspirational to me. My niece spoke about how each of us carry a bit of Dad in all of us.
