As a veteran and lifelong student of leadership I have always found Memorial Day weekend to be one of the most meaningful and significant of all holidays. While this coming weekend simply signifies a long awaited prelude to summer for some, it is much more than that for me.

The harsh reality is that great numbers of leaders continue to operate in a vacuum by sequestering themselves away in the corner office and attempting to lead from afar. So the real question is this…how does a CEO get to the point of being so disconnected from operations that he or she just doesn’t have a clue? " Great article.

In fact, in most cases I actually prefer to have my thinking challenged – this doesn’t threaten me as a leader, it improves my leadership ability. If you crush the individual character and spirit of those who form your team, how can your team operate at its best?
