Who’s Leading Whom?

Lead Change Blog

Louie has had an annoying habit since the day I adopted him almost six years ago. I cannot train it out of him, and I cannot coax it out of him. It’s almost as if it’s in his DNA and he seems to be clueless about this behavior. What is the annoying habit? He walks right in front of me. On our walks, he usually stays beside me, but he will cross paths in a blink of an eye right in front of my feet.

Having the Courage to Trust Your Team

Great Leadership By Dan

Guest post by Bill Treasurer : Leadership is typically associated with action—with trying, doing, and achieving. However, there’s another side to leadership that focuses on the followers: trust. As leaders, we need to actively trust our followers, teams, and employees. While this sounds simple, it’s often a hard task for those of us who are goal-oriented.

Speak to Help, Not to Hurt

Lead Change Blog

I almost spoke but didn’t—and was glad of it. My words weren’t helpful, noble, or persuasive. Only critical. As Dale Carnegie once said, any fool can criticize. I didn’t want to be another fool; several others were already present. Serving up one-and-done criticism is the easy stuff of fools. Criticism delivered from a detached distance and couple with a lack of concern for those who may be hurt, belittled, or marginalized is safe and effortless.

Put Servant Leadership into Practice

Lead Change Blog

I can’t count how many times I’ve heard business leaders, community leaders, experts, etc., talk on and on about servant leadership. It’s fascinating that we all talk about how much we value servant leaders, we want to be led by servant leaders, and strive to become one. Yet it’s still so rare to see it before your eyes in real life. . One of the most effective ways I’ve experienced to really put your money where your mouth is on this one is to actually go out and serve others.

What It Takes to Be a Leader

Great Leadership By Dan

Guest post from David Nielson : As a leader, taking on a new challenge, making a change, or leading a team can be challenging. Be it in business or in life, it isn’t just a test of your ability to know what to do. It’s a test of your ability to hold yourself 100% accountable to follow through on what you promise (or commit) to doing. However, we often get caught up in thinking about getting things done, or looking to others to guide us through difficulties.

5 Tips To Make Your Personal Brand Successful

I’ve been to hundreds over the years, but it’s only been within the last few months that I’ve realised the importance of the personal brand at such events. This is partly because I’m naturally quite introverted—but also because I, like many, have fallen into the trap of focusing networking events on my business rather than myself.
