Unemployment forecasts are generally based on past trends — a reasonable if not infallible approach. This has essentially created an inverse trend. This pattern is apparent after a quick glance at unemployment trends over the past century : the unemployment rate drops quickly after its peak, and then the drop becomes less steep.
