Cross-cultural analysts like Geert Hofstede have said that the biggest difference between the Nordics and other countries are their highly 'feminine' vs 'masculine' values. It is hard to imagine The Economist arguing that "cooperation and modesty" may be an effective engine for competitiveness and growth. Pragmatic indeed.
