Recently a survey was conducted that asked preteens about their long term career aspirations - the top three were sports star, pop star and actor. This is in sharp contrast to those of a generation ago- teacher, banking/finance and medicine.

This is more than a semantical issue – it’s become a systemic problem with many individuals and organizations. The mechanistic world of the industrial age continues to have a grip on our belief system. If efficiency starts diluting productivity rather than increasing it something is woefully amiss. They need to know where they want to take their people (that comes from having knowledge, goals, and/or beliefs therefore is developed). link] mikemyatt We are in agreement on all points Dan. The real key is not whether or not you are naturally gifted, but rather what steps you take in developing toward your full potential.

Taking from my own experience, I've been lucky to be successful (measured by quick progression up the career ladder, material comforts etc) and yet I'm still working on being professionally significant. "False" beliefs, a lack of sincerity, or any belief system that is not genuine can be harmful.

Leaders sometimes forget that new hires are a reflection of the belief systems they established. Every attempt must be made to integrate the company’s value system into its hiring profiles. New hires must reflect the company’s core beliefs.

As you point out though we are now faced with a culture of political correctness> It no longer comes just from the "top" but is deeply ingrained in our belief system, especially when it comes to work environments. To speak "your truth" is perceived to be a potentially career limiting, if not ending move.
