This phase was loosely called leverage buy out (LBO) from about 1979 to 1990 and included over 2,000 LBOs. Traditionally, PE firms bring financial discipline and strategic clarity to firms they acquire. This expertise enables phase one (buy and sell) and phase two (buy and hold) to occur.
