I was challenged to take a higher, more difficult path to achieving longer-lasting loyalty and deeper relationships with those who followed me closest. Even seasoned leaders (and those who operate more from the head) seem to have difficulty with that one. I became much better at real leadership the day I shredded my business card.

Leaders will know they are being inspiring not because they follow a specific list of behaviours, but because their actions compel those under their care to follow their lead, if not garnering their loyalty when things get tough. I often encourage leaders (especially introverts, who may find this difficult) to do this.
