As a veteran and lifelong student of leadership I have always found Memorial Day weekend to be one of the most meaningful and significant of all holidays. While this coming weekend simply signifies a long awaited prelude to summer for some, it is much more than that for me.

learning » Leadership thinking [.] truth and leadership [.] In fact, in some cases the use of buzzwords and business speak can actually demonstrate a better understanding of context, environment, audience, etc. There is no point judging the audience for their reaction, they are where they are. But the audience was oh-so quick to grab their phones and tweet/IM/Facebook about what they were watching. In fact, I hope that some in Bill Nye’s audience were attempting to contact emergency services, but I rather suspect that this was not the case for most of them. The audience gasped, and then talked to each other.

By any category analysis or analytical standard blogging has obviously developed into a powerful communication medium. While this sounds simple enough at face value, I have consistently found that one of the most often overlooked leadership attributes is that of a positive attitude. What made this presentation so powerful was it was more than just an act put on for the benefit of the attendees, it was completely authentic and the audience knew it.
