Building and maintaining physical infrastructure requires a certain kind of know-how, which we call engineering. Ethical dilemmas are at least as hard to resolve as engineering problems, and at least as urgent, particularly in our complex and fast-moving world. How does one motivate staff to acquire this competence and apply it?

The problem is that most leaders believe that in order to inspire other people, they must exude the uncommon charisma of someone like Steve Jobs, Martin Luther King, Jr., For example, when your microwave unexpectedly chills food instead of heating it, it can inspire a revelation about your marriage or your job or even your political views.

Asians were rated as lower on leadership overall, but more so in sales than engineering.
