Where Dan lost me was on point #4 – Teams Decide by Consensus. And as odd as it may sound, one of the greatest impediments to building productive teams is practicing management by consensus. In a highly productive organization the power and influence of your voice is earned through trust and performance, and not entitlement.

Thinking in terms of “ my way &# is right and therefore “ other ways &# are wrong is the basis for polarizing any relationship, which quickly results in converting discussions into power struggles. Never be swayed by consensus that calls you to compromise your values, rather be guided by doing the right thing.
