This isn’t a marketing issue, this is a business-wide issue, involving every facet of the organisation, hence leadership being so important. Why is this so important?

I don’t know about you, but it’s almost as if we have raised a generation of leaders who feel they have a moral and ethical obligation to be politically correct – WRONG. In the end, leadership that adopts politically correct behavior and thinking places themselves and their organizations at great peril.

There is a tremendous amount of conflicting data as to whether or not incentive compensation in any form is an effective motivation tool. I personally dont feel bonuses work to promote a good work ethic. There are those who passionately argue for and against the merits of year-end bonuses. An idividual either has it or doesnt.

Let me be clear: leadership and diversity should have nothing to do with one another. This blog was recently nominated for Kevin Eikenberry’s Best Leadership Blogs of 2010 , and I noticed recently that Kevin was taking heat from the gender police for having only one woman on the list of nominees.

What if service people were given incentives for the “yes” answers they gave to customers and were docked pay for their “no” answers? If the person says “yes” they may have to do something and then take a risk for doing it. And frankly, it seems that some service people don’t feel like they are being paid to say “yes.”

If possible, provide some financial incentive like a small hourly rate or commission for work well-done. Make sure you say in your ad description what they need to be successful with you (eg – a computer with internet access, a nice phone voice, computer skills, etc.).
