EI brings empirical science and greater clarity to the fuzzy topic of leadership. But, too often, STEMM leadership is an oxymoron. Zenger Folkman’s study comparing 360 assessments of STEMM versus non-STEMM leaders shows STEMM leaders are rated lower in leadership effectiveness. Something is missing.

Poor work ethic. Simply put, if you think you are doing well at something and your audience thinks you are not, that disconnect is not only an organizational problem but also a personal problem that you need to solve. Lack of initiative and problem-solving. Sense of entitlement. Overly self-focused. Too emotional. Impatient.

There is no shortcut to playing the numbers when building an audience. Design stems from USE. Observation and role-playing are useful exercises. 5% response is success!
