What to put in. What to leave out. When to generalize. When to be specific. Which examples are clear and which, if left by themselves, will distract more than enlighten. A class should be a map with many trails so a variety of students can find their way to what they need to know.



Some generalizations to string together the specific examples. Bits of humor. Many reminders of things they learned years ago but have forgotten. A few new guidelines along with several items which may jar their assumptions - at least they did mine - and spark new practices.

After the Workshop


My workshops are performances, not recitals. Workshops differ from college classes that can be stretched out and covered in a low-key manner. I've never been into the "sit on a stool, throw a slide on the screen, and then mumble a few explanations" approach to training. The usual preference is for substantive and fast, with doses of quick humor, plenty of case examples, and lots of interaction with the audience. As a result, by the time I'm done, I'm exhausted.
