This is more than a semantical issue – it’s become a systemic problem with many individuals and organizations. The mechanistic world of the industrial age continues to have a grip on our belief system. If efficiency starts diluting productivity rather than increasing it something is woefully amiss. Discipline requires a systemic approach. To make good decisions, we need to understand how the system works. The most productive leaders I know have the ability to be extremely nice, very civil and always polite while maintaining the ability to be direct, focused, and candid.
